Black & Indigenous Mindfulness Meditation, Communal Recovery, and Restoration
AMI is committed to supporting mindfulness and compassionate action. In order to support the diverse identities and needs of our growing community and our ongoing commitment to social justice and vulnerable populations, we are creating several affinity groups under our larger community meditation groups. We hope that you will find them welcoming and safe spaces to explore mindfulness and spiritual growth.
The first Sunday of every month, Dominique Harmon, LCSW leads a 1-hour Black & Indigenous mindfulness meditation group. The group begins with 30-minutes of guided mindfulness meditation followed by a 30-minute group discussion centered on recovery and restoration from race-based stress and trauma. All Black and Indigenous people are invited to attend. This group is offered as a space for communal recovery and restoration. Black and Indigenous people have and continue to be subjected to collective stress and trauma. Supportive communal spaces for recovery and restoration offer powerful gathering experiences. We will create space to be mindfully present with ourselves and one another. Turning our awareness to our thoughts, feelings, and embodied experiences. Using this awareness to inform our personal self-care practices, community engagement, and racial justice efforts.
