Broadly defined, being mindful means paying attention on purpose to present experience, without judgment. The ongoing practice of mindfulness and Mindfulness Meditation enhances mental clarity, insight, compassion and wise action. By slowing down, being fully present, and examining the mind and emotions with acceptance, the mindfulness practitioner can find freedom from suffering.
Many professionals all over the world have incorporated Mindfulness Meditation into their daily routine and have found the practice to be extremely helpful to their personal lives, their work, and their ability to relate to others, including patients, clients, and students. In the past 20 years extensive research has repeatedly shown the benefits of mindfulness in medical care, mental health, education, business and everyday life.
The faculty of the Atlanta Mindfulness Institute has extensive professional training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through the Center for Mindfulness, Medicine, Health Care, and Society. The Center for Mindfulness was founded over 30 years ago by Jon Kabat-Zinn and has pioneered the integration of Mindfulness Meditation and other mindfulness approaches to health care. In addition, the faculty has training in Mindfulness Based-Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), which is a program that combines MBSR and cognitive therapy as an intervention for mental illness.
The primary mission of the Atlanta Mindfulness Institute is to teach professionals both the practice and the application of mindfulness and Mindfulness Meditation. We provide training and networking opportunities for professionals in mental health, medicine, education, and business. Continuing education credits (CEUs) are earned for applicable disciplines.
