Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an eight week program that was first developed by Jon-Kabat Zinn in 1979 and has evolved into a widely taught intervention for many common mental and physical health problems.
The program includes intensive training in mindfulness meditation, gentle yoga, and mindful communication. Mindfulness and the ongoing practice of Mindfulness Meditation improve the ability to be present to the experiences of life with acceptance. The practice of mindfulness is a way of cultivating the unity of mind and body which brings greater awareness to all aspects of a human life: feelings, body sensations, thoughts and emotions.
Individuals who practice Mindfulness notice an increased ability to stay in the present moment and to be more open to “things just as they are.” Acknowledging present moment reality, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, is the first step toward transformation and insight. Responding versus reacting becomes a possibility. Often participants discover long held emotional and behavioral patterns that create stress. These emotional and behavioral patterns are the basis of mental, physical and spiritual disease or suffering. Because of insights that arise from self observation, participants often experience an increase in positive mind states such as joy, compassion, equanimity, and kindness.
The cost of the course is $500.00. There is a student discount of $250.00. Since it is the goal of the Atlanta Mindfulness Institute to make the Stress Reduction Program available to those who can benefit without regard to their ability to pay, alternative payment options may be considered.

"Willing to experience aloneness,
I discover connection everywhere;
Turning to face my fear,
I meet the warrior who lives within;
Opening to my loss,
I gain the embrace of the universe;
Surrendering into emptiness,
I find fullness without end.
Each condition I flee from pursues me,
Each condition I welcome transforms me
And becomes itself transformed
Into its radiant jewel-like essence.
I bow to the one who has made it so,
Who has crafted this Master Game;
To play it is pure delight-
To honor its form, true devotion."
